About us

This old photo is from 1959. My little sister is on the swing & I'm standing beside her. She's 4 and I'm 5. She was a girly girl playing with dolls. I was a tomboy building forts. Those were happy days! Most girls wore cute little dresses with full ruffled slips, ankle socks, patent shoes & ribbons in their hair...most boys wore plaid shirts, dress pants & dress shoes. Fields of wild strawberries, blackberries, apples for mom's homemade jams, jellies & pies. Kool Aid needed a "whole cup" of real sugar! Neighborhood picnics with bologna & ketchup sandwiches. Plays on front porches cost a penny to see & "every parent" showed up. No one locked their doors. Phone numbers had 5 digits. Party lines were entertaining. Dads worked. Moms stayed at home. Street light curfews & homework before bed. School was not an option, but snow days were better. Church with family brunches on Sunday. The sweet innocence of childhood needs to become a priority again and not just a memory.
