Our mission is to provide you with the survival and disaster preparedness items you need for unexpected emergencies and crisis situations. We are experienced health care professionals who live in the country, and also have traveled frequently in wilderness and remote areas, and on backcountry roads. Over the years, we have learned the value of being prepared for the unexpected--power outages, tornadoes, sudden storms, earthquakes, fires, lost pets, injuries, battery failures and more. Today, new threats like viruses and child predators must be factored in to family preparedness. The potential for survival and emergency crisis has never been greater! Yet, the tools, equipment and products to prepare for these crises have never been more user-friendly, more available or more affordable.
Each week, it seems, a new tragedy is reported involving an individual or a family that wasn't prepared for the emergency or survival situation they encountered. We have given a lot of thought as to why this happens, and we think there are two main causes: First, no one thinks it is going to happen to them; and Second, beyond the local drug or super store first aid kit--usually completely inadequate and a waste of money--it's hard to identify, and takes time to find, the products you can really use to prepare for a disaster, an unexpected emergency situation or a survival crisis.
We can't do much about apathy or about people who don't want to bother. All we can do is tell our stories, and hope they make the difference in motivating people--the puppy saved from hypothermia when he fell into an icy creek; the woman with no supplies of her own who broke her leg on a remote trail; the overnight we spent in the car on a snow-bound freeway less than an hour from home; the hours spend with our dogs in our tornado safe space; the days our home generator kept us going in the aftermath of a mammoth storm. These things can and do happen! The key to survival is preparedness. That we can do something about, and that has become our mission.
We continuously research the most useful, complete, high-quality and cost effective survival and emergency preparedness products, and add new ones to the Survival-Emerency Mart frequently. As new threats emerge, like bird flu and the ever-increasing number of missing adults and children, we look for products that can help you and your loved ones be prepared to survive those ordeals, or at least to be identified if the unthinkable happens. In addition, as owners of several types of domestic animals, we look for products that can help you keep your beloved pets out of harm's way and safe in emergencies. We also have access to high quality, very affordable generators. Finally, we believe that emergency preparedness can have a lighter side. Some of these products are just plain fun to have and fun to use. And, even when taken seriously, family preparedness, education and drills can be fun as well, and lessen fear and panic when a real survival or emergency situation arises. So--above all, don't be caught unprepared to help yourself and others. Don't become part of the problem. Survive and thrive!
