Standard SMx Air Ride™ Saddle Pads have a 1/2 inch breathable core. FSA (Force Sensor Array) testing showed this thickness to be optimal for the comfort of both horse and rider as it provides even weight distribution and close contact.

SMx H.D. (Heavy Duty) Air Ride™ Saddle Pads have a 3/4 inch breathable core. These thicker pads are generally preferred in western disciplines where extreme shock could affect the performance of the horse, i.e. roping.

SMx Air Ride™ OrthoSport™ Saddle Pads are specifically designed for strong shouldered and prominent withered horses and have a 1/2 inch breathable core, plus a second layer of padding in the dished out areas behind the shoulders and along the spine. This extra padding helps to achieve a better saddle fit and assists in the even distribution of pressure across the entire back, especially relieving pressure from the highly susceptible withers and kidney areas.
