Do I need a Mannequin for my ebay clothing business?
Plastic Hanging Mannequin Forms are the cheapest category of mannequins that you can find in the store fixture world, but it’s also one of the most efficient and easy to use display tools. Many retail stores are using them and since ebay and other internet marketplaces and clothes selling related websites grew in traffic, they turned to be more popular.
If you are either a power seller or a beginner ebay clothing seller, or even a casual seller and you don’t want to buy an expensive mannequin, this is the best small investment for your clothing business. A Hanging Mannequin Form costs around $ 10.00 and if you do the math, this amount can be paid with the first clothing you sell…If later you don’t want to continue in the business, you can sell it again on ebay or use it for Halloween, a paint project, hanging special clothing in your closet or even practice with an air rifle target …
When you start to use a mannequin for your pictures, you will notice the enormous difference between a picture with the clothes laying on the floor, your bed or hanging from a hanger and the picture using a mannequin. Of course, you will notice your clothing sales will have, not only more successful ratio, but more profit because your clothing will look more interesting and attractive.
The mannequin itself will not sell. A successful listing depends of the kind of clothing, pictures, price and timing, but if you have the possibility of assuring a good part of the success of your sale by choosing the right mannequin, why not use it?.
Here I will give you some information about hanging mannequin forms in order for you to choose the right mannequin for you business.
Quality of the mannequins. - Most of them are molded injection forms; of course, there are different qualities of plastic. At the time of writing this guide (August 26-08), I only saw three sellers (of course I can’t tell you which ones) including me that offer the same kind of sturdy plastic mannequin, on which material I can assure you longer life time. About the other sellers, I don’t know.
Shape and Length. An important feature that you can check is the shape of the mannequin. For example, if you want to sell lingerie or swimsuits or you don’t know if maybe sometime you will sell any of them, it is better if you choose a mannequin with gap between the legs and good shape. This will be better for some kind of skirts too. Prices are almost the same, but sometimes a couple inches in length can make a difference. Or, if you are only selling tops, the torso forms might be the right ones.
Size. - The size is very important and the mannequins are made for determined sizes so, think about what size of mannequin you will need. There are mannequins for S & M sizes, plus size, Large Bust for some large clothing, maternity forms, child, toddler, male and other forms. The world would be easier if we could use the same mannequin for small, medium and large size clothing, but it doesn’t work like that, it doesn’t exist.
Even the retail stores adjust some clothing to the back when using a full body mannequin, of course without altering the shape of the clothing or giving to the customer a false idea of the clothing.
Storage. - Well, in this topic there’s no problem because even the worst hanging mannequins can be stackable because of their hollow back (half form). They are easy to store in a closet or small space.
Price. - Don’t let that the low price create the false illusion of a great deal. Do the math including the amount what you will pay for shipping. All the mannequin sellers have similar prices with a difference of some pennies (talking about the ones who offer the same quality), so if you see a low price maybe it is an occasional seller reselling their hanging mannequin forms. Maintenance.-A good thing about the hanging forms is that they are easy to clean with water or if there is some little dirt, use paint thinner. It works great to leave them as new.
So, if you want to have more chances of success on ebay selling clothing, buy a mannequin, either from me or other seller. It’s a good investment.
