Bethany Lowe Designs is a small family-owned business that began 20 years ago with the artist’s vision of creating unique, original, vintage-style folk art and holiday designs. At that time very few companies were creating this distinct style and look.
Early years were devoted to making Bethany’s limited edition and one-of-a-kind Santa Claus figures, studio-made ornaments and Christmas decorations
A trendsetter in the early “country lodge” look, she discovered that import companies were reproducing her new ideas and were able to reach a larger audience by mass-producing their product.
In 1997 Bethany decided to travel overseas to see if high-quality handmade designs could be produced at a more reasonable price. After two years of working with different manufacturers in different countries, she was able to replicate her designs while maintaining the quality that her customers had come to expect. She now had two distinct lines: her artist-made folk figures and the newly created “holiday home” collection. Stores were excited to discover that there were now price levels for everyone, and the new imported line was very well-received. In addition to the Christmas products, the nostalgic collections grew to include the Valentine’s Day, Easter, July 4th, Halloween and Thanksgiving holidays. Designs were made in papier-maché, paper pulp, resin, tin, hand-dyed and appliqued wool, cotton batting, mercury glass, pottery, wood and vintage reproduction papers. Sales increased to include every state in the country, as well as overseas.
Whether you are new to Bethany Lowe or an old friend, you will find their growing collection of holiday memorabilia and vintage reproductions are inspired by Bethany’s passion for anything old with a story to tell, and her love of original folk art. To that end, she is working with some of the most innovative and creative folk artists in the country, bringing their wonderful handmade designs to a broader public. “Dee Foust Collectibles,” “Hobgoblins” from the vintage collection of Bruce Elsass, “Trout Creek Tales” by Virginia Betourne and “Dresden Star Heirloom Ornaments” by Gail and Glenn Giaimo are Bethany Lowe’s licensed artists from last year. Joining Bethany Lowe in January of 2006 will be Scott Smith of “Rucus Studio,” with his whimsical interpretations of old holiday treasures; Casey Mack, who creates vintage-inspired, delightful small-scale wonders from cardboard, glitter and paper; and Greg Guedel whose fanciful woodcarvings will be reproduced and hand-finished in every magical detail. They also have licensed woodcarver Tony Costanza of “Captured Carvings” whose primitive folk style has a rough-hewn beauty that has garnered him national acclaim. Bethany Lowe Designs is excited to have these talented artists as part of their creative team.
Originality, creativity and a sense of design continues to keep Bethany Lowe Designs in the forefront of the marketplace -- featuring the collectibles of today inspired by holidays past.
Together, The Holiday Store and Bethany Lowe, invite you to share our passion for nostalgic holiday memorabilia, and hope you will be inspired to “build a tradition” of your own. |
