Cape Cod Polishing Tips and Techniques
After some testing, The Watch Boys have discovered a few tips, which should help you obtain the best results on your polished metal surfaces.
*Remember, this product is ONLY for polished, solid metal surfaces!
**This product can be used on thinner metal plating, but DO NOT over polish chrome or other plated metal surfaces!
**Helpful tools: We recommend that you use an eye loupe or other form of magnifying instrument. Using a towel or other form of padded surface is important for protecting your watchcase or metal piece. Have a good quality buffing cloth to shine after polishing.
1) Start off slowly, and use light pressure to begin. Using your fingertip, applying minimal pressure is all you need for light/hairline scratches and abrasions. Check you work periodically by wiping the surface clean and observing your progress. The rule of thumb is… The deeper the scratch, the more pressure you have to use, and time it will take
2) A great tip we discovered is, removing the part you are working on, and rubbing it on the cloth itself. Especially if the part is small in size, like a bracelet link or bezel, you can apply more downward pressure this way and work more efficiently!
3) If you are working close to a brushed surface (ask about our re-brushing pens), it would be advisable to mask the area with masking tape to prevent any overlapping onto brushed metal.
Within no time you will find the technique, which works best for your particular watch.
Thank you for using the Cape Cod Metal Polishing Cloth,
