PAPERBACK BOOK GRADING
PICTURE #1: Shows the spine of the paperback books and the degree of tilt or slant to the spine.
PICTURE #2: Shows the degree of spine creases and edge wear.
Brand New: The first 3 paperback books are considered brand new: bindings tight and square with no spine creases and no shelf wear to the edges, no markings inside or out, pages clean.
Like New: The next 2 paperback books are considered like new: bindings tight and square with no to very light barely there start of spine creases and little to no shelf wear at all. Possibly read once but with care, cover and corners show no wear or bends or surface marks. May have initials or stamp inside, or date and/or small mark or date on the bottom.
Very Good: The next 4 paperback books are considered very good: bindings tight, may be square, but may also have a very slight tilt. Light start of spine creases with some shelf wear to the edges and maybe some to the corners, but not very much at all. May have initials or stamp inside, and/or small mark or date on the bottom.
Good: The last 4 paperback books are considered good: Bindings tight but have more of a tilt with heavier spine creases and more shelf wear to the edges and corners. May have initials or stamp inside, and/or small mark or date on the bottom.
PICTURE #3: Shows bindings tight and square on the top 2 books with some shelf wear to the edges at spine end and some rubbing along the edge of the spine on the top book. The bottom book has a slight angle or cock to the spine.
PICTURE #4: This shows an acceptable paperback, binding is tight but with a heavy tilt and heavy spine creases. Start of readers crease at spine on the cover at the lower corner. I rarely sell books in this condition, if at all. I never sell books that have lose or missing pages.
* I describe every book in my listings using this formula, you will find it to be more reliable and you will not have any suprises when you get your treasures.
HARDCOVER BOOKS: Brand New & Like New have tight and square bindings, dust jackets are included if they were originally published with the dust jacket and sho no tears or chipping, corners sharp.
HARDCOVER BOOKS: Very Good & Good have tight bindings and may have a slight tilt to the binding. There may be some shelf wear to the dust jacket and any chipping or tears are noted. Any markings inside or out are also noted.
I only list the best possible condition that I can find & my home is smoke & pet free although I cannot guarantee the history of books that are not marked Brand New.
Most of my listings have a picture of the books from the front or if it is a single title, I angle the book so that you can see the spine. On most lots I will include a picture of the spines and describe all the books in the listing as tight and square or if they have some tilt to the spines and the amount of spine creasing. (Please note: There is no such word as Spinal with regards to the spine of a book and I will never use it!)
I hope this helps and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
