| Tom's Incense - More Info
A little added commentary that is probably not all that pertinent to our transactions, but if you would like to read some additional information about how we (my wife and I) do business, it's here.
A Real Business. I take my business seriously, and as such the customer always comes first. No excuses or sob stories, no exaggerations or shaky claims, and hopefully an all around better experience for you. Our policies are simple - you must be satisfied - and I work long and hard days to try to make that happen as best as I can. I don't always succeed, but if there is ever a problem please let me know and I'll do my best to make it right - no excuses and no hassles.
Prices. Some of our prices are the lowest, many aren't. If you compare our overall price with shipping, especially for multiple purchases, we'll be very competitive if not the lowest - sometimes by a fairly significant amount. We don't "chase" pricing for the sake of a few quick sales, that's not how you stay in business for the long run (and I've been in business since 1992 and on EBay since 2000). I do run a sale here and there, though, to keep things interesting. We also try to keep our shipping rates as simple and realistic as we can, although that is a very difficult challenge, indeed. I almost always lose money on the shipping charges...
Dubious Claims. There are several incense stores out there claiming the biggest selection, the best quality, the lowest prices, and so forth. In my experience, if you make a claim like that, if it was even true when you made it (and it often isn't), then it probably won't be true any more five minutes after you make it. So we don't make unsubstantiated claims - we'll let you judge for yourself, especially about the biggest in stock selection of quality incense on the web ☺.
A Copy? I started selling incense in 2007 after deciding to go back into on-line selling after a short hiatus. I have had a passion for incense for a very long time. And I was having a really hard time getting the incense that I wanted without a lot of hassles and/or poor service. So I decided that I would try to do it better, and I hope that I am. Of course that's for you to decide. We weren't the first selling incense, but we're working hard to try to make sure you are satisfied with every transaction so that we earn your business going forward. No, we're definitely not a "copy"... (We've also been selling on EBay longer than the "original", in those terms we're the original. Dubious claims...)
Thinking green. We ship six days and pack seven days a week, and we're not adding one iota of emissions to the environment by doing so. The postal service picks up our packages on their route where they would be going regardless of whether we were shipping or not. We re-use packaging materials wherever possible, and if we aren't re-using it, it'll be as environmentally friendly as we can find, even though it costs us more to do it that way.
Answering EMail. I answer your email every day, usually about 14 hours a day, and quite often within minutes of getting it. And does that do damage to the environment? Of course not.
Floods. In all of our years selling on-line, and through floods, sickness, snow storms, computer meltdowns, personal/family tragedies, moving, and other problems, we've managed to only miss one day of shipping. Not that it won't happen again someday, but so far we've persevered through a lot of different challenges. For a recent example, in July 2008 we had a flood cut off the only entrance to our sub-division for three days, I took a picture of that entrance that you can see here. It looked very doubtful that I was going to find a way to get the packages out, but through a little ingenuity and a lot of perseverance, I managed. (The biggest challenges has been the two times we've moved over the years, BTW, and the first move caused the one day that I missed.)
Products. Incense is an intensely personal experience, and every person has a different experience. So we carry incense brands as we find them and as we can afford to expand to carry them - I'm not going to presume to tell you what's "quality" and what's not, that's for you to decide. The incense I love and use every day might be something that you dislike, and vice versa. (I like Laxmi dhoop sticks, for example, and that's definitely not everyone's "cup of tea". I also like Tennendo and Minorien incense from Japan - but just because they're higher priced doesn't mean you're going to like them.)
I would also never try to scare you away from using dipped incense (or any other product, for that matter). Much dipped incense is of extremely high quality and provides a very satisfying experience. All of our incense is fresh and rotated often. In fact, we don't actively stock some of the extremely high priced incense just because we don't want to sell you something that isn't as fresh as possible. (I've even seen one company telling you that you shouldn't buy dipped incense from any EBay sellers!)
Duplicate Listings. Our system for listing items will produce seemingly duplicated listings when we change product details. As we usually list partial amounts of inventory on EBay anyway to reduce the chance of running out of something, even if you buy from more than one listing we'll often have them all in stock. As with our incense stock, we rotate our EBay listings monthly rather than letting them continue from month to month, and in doing so that will also produce duplicate listings. If you see duplicates and one has a lower price, by all means take it - that is why it's a duplicate, the price changed.
Thanks for taking the time to read through all of this, and thank you for your kind words and feedback. We truly appreciate it and we'll continue to work hard to deserve it.
