During this time the Bel Air was sold with ten different engine configurations, the most powerful being a 427 cu in V8 producing 385 horse power, giving this car a strong presence in the muscle car market place. The 1969 redesign is one of the most recognizable muscle car styles of the Bel Air, which was sold in a 425 horse power configuration. Similar to the other Companies in the muscle car market, the Bel Air moved into its less powerful, seventh generation design in 1971, ending its run as a muscle car, but remaining a true classic.
