  • Shipping Discount

Here's the deal: Order any mixture of vanilla beans and the shipping is combined as follows (please note that this is is ONLY for vanilla beans - orders with products other than vanilla beans are handled differently):

Canada & Mexico

All other countries

Up to and including 2 pounds

Over 2 pounds to 8 pounds

Weight is for the order only - bonus beans do not count towards shipping weight.

* This is the maximum charge for Priority Mail.  Lower weight orders may ship for less via First Class Mail.

Your order can be a mixture of different vanilla bean products.

As an example, you could order:

  • (1) 1 pound Near Gourmet Beans
  • (3) 1/4 pound Madagascar Vanilla Beans
  • (1) 1/4 pound Madagascar Prime Gourmet Vanilla Beans

The total product weight in this example is two pounds.  If your order contains packs of ten beans, figure 10 packs per pound for the purposes of calculating the shipping weight (this does not mean that a ten pack weighs 1/10 of a pound, it is just a rough estimate for shipping weight).

Unfortunately, the eBay shipping calculator cannot handle this type of shipping discount, so you will have to request a corrected combined invoice from us after placing your order to get the shipping discount. This discount cannot be applied with any other shipping discount. We may also ship via first class mail for orders under one pound total.

Shipping Discount FAQ

Q: I just bought 1/4 pound of vanilla beans and the auction shows a shipping charge of $2. Does this mean that I have to pay $5.50 in shipping for this order?

A: No. Your shipping charges will not exceed $5.50 for the first two pounds of vanilla beans, although it can be lower.

Q: Why don't you just make shipping free?

A: Free shipping actually costs you more.

To paraphrase a popular saying, there's no such thing as free shipping. When a product is offered with free shipping, the cost of shipping is already built into the price of the product. Ultimately, the buyer pays for everything. By separating the cost of the product from the cost of shipping, we can get you the best deal possible on shipping.

Here is how it costs you more:  Suppose something costs $10 for the item plus $5.50 to ship it.  With "free" shipping, the seller has to list it for $15.50.  You order two of these items, and it costs you $31 with free shipping.

With combined shipping, you would pay $10 x 2, plus $5.50 for shipping, for a total of $25.50.

However, even if you only order one item, free shipping still costs you more.  Why?  Ebay charges about 12% for each sale, excluding shipping charges.  The seller is going to have to increase their price to cover that 12% on the shipping charge since it is included in the price that Ebay charges for the sale.

Q: How can you offer this deal?

A: Thanks to the US Post Office! They offer flat rate shipping for Priority Mail in special envelopes and boxes that they supply. We are just passing the savings on to you!

Q: Does the section on Combined Shipping Discount still apply?

A: Yes, however the offer is for one way or the other, not both. For smaller orders, the Combined Shipping Discount program will save you money. For larger orders, this new shipping discount will save you more money.

Q: Do you offer a shipping discount if part of the order contains vanilla extract or vanilla paste?

A: Yes, but it gets complicated. Since by USPS regulations vanilla extract must go by ground, the entire order will have to go by ground.  You would pay the normal Parcel Post rates for the vanilla extract plus the actual incremental cost for shipping the beans (it is weight and distance dependent).
