Wearable Art
The word "designer" is often associated with runway fashion or exquisite homes. Along those same lines, vintage designer label jewelry can be equally bold, aesthetic and chic.

Sometimes the beauty is in the design itself and older designs have often been patented. Other times, the use of unusual materials, signature style (Miriam Haskell comes to mind), or lavish materials make these pieces of jewelry stand out from the crowd.

Oftentimes though, these designers just knew how to take readily available materials and sculpt them into something extravagant.

      Materials and types
Glass beads, art glass cabs and specialty rhinestones were a favorite material of many designers. Early plastic, including Bakelite, was also used.

Some also used more organic materials like coral and mother of pearl shell and even wood.

Jewelry sets are highly sought after, and also hard to come by. Many people spend years trying to get a complete set (or parure) in a design.

      Individual designer items include:
      • Necklaces
      • Earrings
      • Brooches
      • Bracelets
      • Rings (not as common)
      • Watches
      • Lockets (not as common)
      • Cuff Links
      • Key Chains
      • Fur or Dress Clips
      • Sweater Clips
      • Belts (not as common)
