What is
The SUPER DYNO System About?
The SUPER DYNO is a 6 volt LIGHTING SYSTEM which consist of a small generator
installed in the magneto case of 2 cycle motorized bicycle engines. This generator
is called the MINI-GEN, and produces electricity to run your lights without
affecting your engine's magneto or ignition system.
Many owners of these motorized bikes are running lights from the
engine magneto using the white wire, and this will support lighting up to about
3 watts total or less. Anything over a certain amount of current draw on the
engine's white
wire will cause the bike to experience hard start or no start. A CDI
(ignition coil) that's not in excellent condition, or within a certain
tolerance could aggravate this problem even more.
If you want completely
reliable lighting that's independant of your bike's ignition system and supports
between 5 and 10 watts of lighting, then our MINI-GEN is the way to go. The
Mini-Gen produces a nominal 6.5 volts ac @ approx. 850 rpms, and can produce up to
about 13 volts ac at 3000 rpms. Most light bulbs will run off ac as well as dc
current.
The Mini-Gen can be used along with the complete SUPER DYNO
Lighting System, or with just a headlight & switch, or even just connected
directly to a headlight for "constant-light-on" condition.
Why use a 6
volt bulb and not 12 volts?
Because a 12 volt bulb would not run very
bright during the most common engine speed circumstances; which could be between
700 & 2000 rpm. A 6 volt bulb up to about 5 watts is recommended. A little extra
voltage (between 7 & 9v) at high speeds will result in a brighter 6 volt light.
The over voltage could possibly shorten the life span of the bulb, but not by
much.
