~ Candle Burning Tips ~

Before lighting your candle remove all wrapping, ribbons or decorative items and trim wicks to 1/4".  Place your candle on a stable, heat resistant surface.  Always provide ample overhead clearance. Always keep away from drafts, flammable materials & animals. Never move a candle while it is burning or still hot.

Always allow candle to cool before moving or relighting. Keep wick centered & trimmed to 1/4" to prevent smoking and soot build up. If flame gets too large or exposed wick is taller than 1/4", extinguish, let candle cool down before trimming. If your candle smokes, extinguish, allow the candle to cool, trim wicks and relight.  Do not allow matches or wick trimmings to fall into the melt pool. Your candles should burn 1 hour for every inch of diameter.  This will establish a good melt pool therefore giving you the best scent throw.  It will also prevent your candle from developing a crater or sink hole in the middle.If your candle burns unevenly due to a draft, carefully push the wick to the higher side.  If this causes dripping, extinguish candle, cool and relight.  Repeat a few times and the candle will repair itself.   Never blow out your candles, you will spray wax everywhere and cause the candle top to drip and smoke.  The best way to put a candle out is with a candle snuffer.  If you do not have a andle snuffer you can use the tip of an old knife to dip the wick into the melt pool to put the candle out. Once the candle is put out push the wick up again. Do not leave the wick into the melt pool or it will get covered by wax once the candle cool. To prevent fading, keep out of direct sunlight.

Pillar Candles

The very first burn of a pillar candle is the most important. Allow candle to burn 1 hour for every one inch in diameter of the candle. This will create the "melt pool" that will help your candle to completely consume itself. The liquid wax should reach the edge of the candle but not spill over.

Votive Candles

To keep your votive glass from overheating, try placing one teaspoon of water in the glass before placing votive in holder. Before putting water in the glass, check to be sure the wick is not exposed on the base of the votive. Water in the wick will make your candle sputter and go out. You might find the glass will remain clean and clear when lit if you take the time to do this little trick.

• Always trim the candle’s wick to a height of 1/4" to 3/8” before each lighting.

• To increase a candle’s total burn time, don’t burn it any longer than 3 to 4 hours at a time. Large diameter candles should be burned no longer than (two) 2 hours at a time. (This helps the side wax that’s intact, allowing the candle to glow from within).

• The most common explanation for an unevenly burning candle is a draft. If you can’t move the candle out of the draft, periodically rotate it 90 degrees to keep the candle burning uniformly.

• A container candle (jar candles, votives in holders etc.) should be burned for (one) 1 hour for each inch in its diameter. This allows the wax to pool to cover the entire surface of the candle and prolongs burning time.
