10 easy steps for ChinaLink Partner Program:

1) Identify the product you are interested in. It can be anything in the existing online/bricks-and-mortar marketplaces or anything in your mind (with a prototype).

2) Send us an e-mail by clarifying your request (please do not change the default email title). Be sure that your request includes detailed product specifications and the quantity you would like to import.

3) We will present a couple of potential suppliers to you. You can either directly contact the suppliers or make us the delegate for the initial negotiation. Be sure to discuss price, shipping, and payment terms during this stage. Request a sample when necessary. FREE Translation Services in all major languages will be provided upon request.

4) Select a supplier you would like to work with based on product quality, price, and proposed payment terms.

5) Contact your local international trade association and customs office to help you select a customs house broker and freight forwarder. For the first time importer, use more individualized services, since you will need more attention than you expect. Ask the customs house broker and freight forwarder for a detailed break-down on the costs and regulations for importing these goods into your country.

6) Do your homework on compliance issues. You must understand the relevant import compliance regulations beforehand. For an example, besides US Customs and Border Protection, other government authorities like USDA, FDA, DOT, and ATF also regulate imports. Go to the websites of these agencies to register and/or download the necessary forms.

7) Place an order with the selected supplier through a written purchase order. In the purchase order, be sure to include a detailed description of the products, trade terms, and a list of all necessary shipping documents.

8) If necessary, appoint an inspection company to check your goods on site in the factory. It is usually done a few days before the expected shipping date. This will minimize your risk in receiving defective or non-conforming goods.

9) Issue a power of attorney for your customs broker to act on your behalf when the goods arrive in your country.

10) Track your shipment and customs clearance. Your forwarder and customs broker will take care of the logistics for transportation and customs clearance. However, you may be called on for additional information.

Now you have your products. It's time to maximize your market presence and build up your thriving business!
