The Ed Pink SEMA
Engine
A
very special engine is being assembled by legendary builder Ed Pink
from a compliment of premium quality high performance components
from leading manufacturers in the automotive aftermarket; all of
whom are members of the SEMA trade association.
This
is not your ordinary “crate engine” as absolutely no factory stock
parts are employed. The engine is based on the popular small block
Ford design, and its foundation is a Dart SHP 302 block and Dart
Pro1 aluminum cylinder heads. The block has an 8.200” deck height,
which gives it bolt-in compatibility with all early and “Fox”
platform Mustangs. It is also ideally suited for use in street rods,
Cobra kit cars, classic trucks and “restomod”Fords.
Exceptional power and torque, without sacrificing reliability, will
be obtained by increasing the engine displacement to 347 cubic
inches through use of a Scat 4340 forged steel “stroker” crankshaft.
The 4.125” bore Mahle forged aluminum pistons and modified 62cc
combustion chamber design will combine for a compression ratio of
9.5:1 to allow use of pump gasoline.
Other key components
include a hydraulic roller cam and lifters from Comp Cams, Manley
stainless steel valves, an Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor,
Milodon oil pan and pump, plus a billet distributor and ignition
from Crane Cams. ARP fasteners hold it all together.
The
engine is being meticulously blueprinted and assembled by the
technicians at Ed Pink Racing Engines and will be dyno-tested upon
completion. Specially engraved and finished Edelbrock aluminum valve
covers, plus other enhancements, will give the engine a distinctive
touch. The purchaser of the engine will get a complete notebook
containing test data and product information from the manufacturers.
It will be shipped with a case of Joe Gibbs Driven oil, and equipped
with a set of ceramic-coated Hedman Hedders best suited to the
vehicle its being installed in.
The SEMA Memorial
Scholarship Fund
Each year, the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund (SMSF)
distributes between $100,000 and $150,000 in scholarships to
deserving students who plan to pursue careers in the automotive
industry. The distributions include awards for vocational schools
and two-year, four-year and postgraduate work, with a percentage
designated for the families of employees of SEMA-member companies.
There is also a Loan Forgiveness Program to help repay student loans
for employees of SEMA-member firms. This year, two eBay auctions
will contribute significant awards to the SMSF. For more

About SEMA
A love for cars, trucks and SUVs is
the motivating force behind the Specialty Equipment Market
Association (SEMA). This trade association consists of a diverse
group of manufacturers, distributors, retailers, publishing
companies, auto restorers, street-rod builders, restylers, car
clubs, race teams and more. SEMA members make, buy, sell and use all
kinds of specialty parts and accessories to make vehicles more
attractive, more unique, more convenient, faster, safer, more fun
and even like-new again. The companies that founded SEMA—and the
entire specialty parts and accessories industry, for that
matter—were started by people who loved cars and trucks and turned
their hobby into a career. Most people in the industry today still
feel this way. That’s one of the things that makes SEMA and its
members unique. For more information, visit
