You will need:
- A tape measure
- The shoes you will wear with your costume.
- A friend to help
Standing up tall, have your friend measure from the back of your neck (where a T shirt label would be) to the proposed bottom of your cape. This is the measurement I will use to cut your cape out. Please do not give me a measurement to the floor unless your cape is to touch the floor.
Floor length capes need 4 inches of floor clearance for you to walk safely. Notice that kitchen base cabinets have a standard 4 inch toe space. When you walk your toe clears the floor and swings upward, if you intend to walk in your cape without holding it above the floor with your hand please give yourself toe clearance.
I often have customers who are 6 feet tall tell me to make their cape 72 inches long. This measurement would only work if the buyer intended to wear his cape on the top of his head.
In general a person has an 11 inch head/neck and 4 inch foot/ankle measurement this would give the 6 foot tall buyer a 57 inch measurement for a floor length cape with walking clearance.
