The new Frankoma plates celebrating their 75th Anniversary are finished---this is my second design for Frankoma in less than a year. We have a few of the Oklahoma Centennial plates with the scissortails left-- these are all there will ever be, as we already broke the master mold in Feb.
Frankoma is the oldest pottery in Oklahoma-- one of the last of the last of the original old Arts and Crafts movement pottery makers that used to dot the American map
-- the factory was taken over by Det and Crystal Merryman, two quite marvelous individuals, who moved their pottery plant in So Cal to the Oklahoma hills at Sapulpa, southwest of Tulsa. They use the clay from Sugarloaf Hill-- the most beautiful clay-- both texture and color that I know of.
You can buy all of our newer books here, also my paintings, books, maps and interesting and very collectible items---- such as 1930's art deco toys. My gallery is right on the main street, just south of the college--- at 504 N. Muskogee Avenue, Tahlequah, Oklahona 74464 USA, and you can phone me at (918)456-2227. If I'm not there please leave a detailed message, your questions, ideas, and business are of course very important to us.
If you're in this region, come by the studio- we like to have visitors, but do call ahead just to make sure we're in town. The gallery is worth a visit and so is this town. Tahlequah is the Cherokee capital, the oldest town in Oklahoma, laid out by the Cherokee Freemasons in 1840, I'm on the main street runs straight N to S lined up to Polaris, the estrella norte--- also the oldest college (west of the Mississippi) also founded by cherokees is 1/2 block away--- three good little restaurants are less than 1/2 block away from the studio. Spring Creek, 17 miles to our north, is the most beautiful stream in Oklahoma.
Cherokee National Holidays is Labor Day Weekend and the town is crawling with things to do and lotsa people. The best and worst time to visit here.
Summer in the ol' Cherokee nation--- and we've had 44 invches of rain in 2008--- over a usual year's rain in six months. The ozark woods, usually most hikeable are a jungle, and the Scenic Illinois river, mostly canoe-able has been running hard, it's so damn beautiful here, this is an UltraClassic American small town w/ lots of artists, writers, singer-songwriters and even a poet or two. Come see us when you get the chance. Friday nights are usually music nights at the studio.
---- our latest projects are free cyber storybooks, with my paintings and mp3's of Debbie telling the stories she wrote---you can view and buy some of the paintings here, and you can go see the free eStories online-- directly from the item description page.
--- Debbie's getting some national radio airplay on the alternative/ folk stations --- her singer/ songwriting is better than first rate, Go to directly to myspace.com/debbieduvall to hear !!!!!
Remember that by buying the books, paintings, and other items sold on my site, you directly fund the projects we're workin' on like the new Cyber Library--- Thanks, Murv Jacob |
