IMPORTANT COMPUTER OPERATING SYSTEM FAQS:

Q... The system requirements shown in the listing does not show Windows Vista, or Windows 7 - will it work on these operating systems?
A... Because we sell so many computer products, we cannot test each one with Vista/7/8. If our title or description does not mention Vista/7/8 then it may not be compatible, however many items that work with Windows XP also work with Vista/7/8 right out of the box ... OR ... Windows Vista/7/8 also has a simple backward compatibility feature that allows most older titles to work properly - please click on the links below to see how this works...
Vista.. http://www.ehow.com/how_2097888_old-programs-run-windows-vista.html
Win 7.. http://www.1stvideo.com/Win7.htm
Win 8... http://tinyurl.com/bcajpw6

Also Microsoft provides a list of Vista/7/8 compatible games however please be aware that there are many titles not in the Microsoft list and have never been tested. See the Windows compatibility page here

Q... What about MAC - will this item work on the latest MAC operating systems?
A...
For Macintosh programs, just because the system requirements show 9.X or higher or OS X does not mean it will work on the latest MAC operating systems. Most older games will need to be run in Classic Environment if you have a MAC OS X 10.0 - 10.4 version. A quick Google search will show you how to do this. If your MAC OS system doesn't support Classic Environment (ie. MAC OS X 10.5 or Higher OR Intel Macs), you will have to try running it using the free program called SheepShaver, but compatibility is not ensured. Please research prior to purchasing.

Q... What about Windows 32 vs 64 bit operating systems?
A...
For 64-bit Operating Systems, older games most likely will NOT work due to 64-bit systems not being able to run 16-bit programming code (most games prior to 2000). Quite often 32 bit programs can be run on 64 bit systems. Again, because we sell so many computer products, we cannot test for 64 bit compatibility. In most cases a quick Google search will get a 64 bit compatibility answer for the item you are looking at.

OTHER GENERAL COMPATIBILITY GUIDELINES:

1. Can you play DS games on the new 3DS console?
  • YES, DS games will play fine on the new 3DS console - just not in 3D. Go to this link for some special instructions.

2. Can the Nintendo DS play Game Boy games?

What the DS can play:

  • Game Boy Advance games in single-player mode only
  • Game Boy Advance videos

What it cannot play:

  • Original Game Boy or Game Boy Color games
  • Game Boy Advance games in multi-player mode

Why there are limitations:
There are two main reasons that the Nintendo DS is not compatible with older software. For one, the system is designed for wireless play and lacks a link cable port. Because older games aren't designed to use the wireless features, they can't communicate for multiplayer games.

Also, the Nintendo DS lacks the special processor that is required to play these games. Because of the age of the processor, and the difficulty in adding that processor to an already highly complicated architecture, the processor was not included in the final design of the DS.
