COLOR: All of the diamonds I sell fall between the G-J color range. The color range of the particular pair for this auction is listed above. The G-J color range is considered a near colorless or slightly tinted range. It is the main grade range of diamonds most commonly used for stud earrings. The D-F White diamond range is typically reserved for engagement rings.
CLARITY: A flawless diamond is extremely rare. Most diamonds have flaws, known as “inclusions”. All diamond clarity grading is done under a 10x loupe for greater consistency. All of the diamonds I sell fall within the SI range. SI stands for “slight inclusions”. Most of my diamonds fall closest to SI/2-3
The SI range (1, 2 & 3) inclusions will sometimes be visible to the naked eye. Because the subdivision of SI grading into 1, 2 and 3 is highly subjective, I list all of my diamonds as SI without further classification. According to the GIA web site, Slightly Included (SI1 and SI2) contain noticeable inclusions which are easy (SI1) or very easy (SI2) to see under 10X.
In some SIs, inclusions can be seen with the unaided eye. The GIA does not recognize the SI3 grading while most other internationally recognized grading organizations do.
EYE-CLEAN: According to the EGL “eye-clean” refers to inclusions not obviously visible, including I/1 diamonds.
The European Gemological Laboratory (EGL) introduced the SI3 as a clarity grade. While intended as a range to include borderline SI2 / I1 stones, it is now commonly used to mean I1's which are ''eye clean'', that is, which have inclusions which are not obviously visible to the naked eye.
The SI range is in the middle of the clarity grade range, which is perfect for earrings. The VS (or very slightly included) range and above is typically reserved for engagement rings while the VVS (or very very slightly included) range is typically reserved for investments only.
Diamond grading is not an exact science, but is instead the opinion of an educated professional. Grading can vary from one gemologist to another, although it should not vary by more than one grade in any direction. Jewelry store over-the-counter opinions can be far from accurate when it comes to grading and/or “independent” assessment. If you're not completely satisfied with your purchase for any reason at all please let me know and I will do everything possible to ensure complete satisfaction. A certificate of authenticity is included with your purchase displaying the carat weight and grade of the diamond earrings you will be receiving.
