Our Xmas Story As we approach this most magical time of year, the entire crew here at Lotustraders would like to wish you a holiday season filled with the love of family
and the comfort of friends. It’s love, after all, that makes it all worthwhile. Our gratitude for your encouragement and support during these challenging times is heartfelt and sincere and we want you to know that the value of your purchases has profound impact far beyond the glorious package that arrives in the mail. You’re very much a part of this story too……..Anik, her husband Rony and their twin daughters are from a small rural village in Java. Employment opportunities there had disappeared and they were forced to leave their infant daughters in the care of Rony’s mother to look for work in
Bali .Like so many of us today and throughout history, back to the very first Christmas, these two parents were determined to provide
a better life for their children…..
For 3 years Anik & Rony worked long hours and sent as much money as possible back home to Java to support the twins. Every holiday they would make the arduous 3 day bus trip home to spend time with their daughters.Fortunately, Anik found employment with Annie, at first as a sales girl in one of Annie’s stores. She worked hard, learned fast, and became a skilled production manager for LotusTraders.Eventually, Anik asked Annie for a loan to purchase sewing machines so that Rony, a skilled tailor, would be able to practice his trade. Rony tailors fashions for Lotustraders now also and he and Anik are able to provide refuge, employment and support for others in their own independent venture.The twins are reunited with their parents and love attending school in B ali . The family has their own home and they are thriving. Dreams of a better life for the girls are developing into a reality.
Annie’s model for the way we do business here is based on family. The highly skilled people who produce your garments are reimbursed with a living wage. The work environment is supportive. Production is on a smaller, more human scale and nothing is mass produced. People often wonder how we keep our costs so low. That’s part of the model too.
