FAQs for MADORMAN

Who is MADORMAN ?

MADORMAN is a sweet little granny selling mostly books and odds & ends that have come her way. This is a one-woman operation working on a shoe string budget.

Why should I buy from MADORMAN?

If you want to be confident that what you buy is what you get and that it will be shipped quickly and carefully, you can buy here with confidence. I like happy buyers and will gladly work with you to ensure that happiness.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Pay Pal, Bid Pay, Checks, and Money Orders. Cash is generally not recommended, since if it gets lost in the mail, there's no way to prove it was ever sent or received.

While I'm not particularly fond of Pay Pal these days (the bite they take is a big one for me), I still cheerfully accept it. Although for amounts under $15, I would ask the buyer if there is an alternative payment method they would consider instead. Note, I'm only asking, not demanding.

What if I have a question before I bid?

Please feel free to email me with any questions. Most of the time I get back to you within a couple of hours with an answer. However, I have a full time job which frowns on conducting personal business on company time so during the day is not always an option. Other times, the family seems to think that I should spend time with them. So, response times vary accordingly.

When and how often do you ship?

I try to ship 4 days a week on days that the USPS is open, barring emergencies. Usually I go to the PO between 9 am and 10 am. They are considering giving me a reserved parking space in honor of my dedication and spending. Because work is hectic, I generally go on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays barring holidays.

What carrier do you use? Can you explain how you arrive at your S&H costs?

99% of my shipments go out courtesy of the U S Postal Service. Using other services can present a challenge, but I can work with you if it is vital to you. My S&H charges are based on weight and ZIP code. For books, I usually include the rate for Media Mail in the auction just below the pictures. A small fee of less than $1.00 may be added to offset my packaging material costs.

How will I know when you've shipped?

When I receive your payment in the mail or on line, I will send you a confirming email to let you know. Then I try to ship within 24 hours (provided the PO is open).

If you get concerned that it's been a long time and you still haven't received your purchase, please email me for an update or assistance.

Where are you located? What's your ZIP code?

I'm located in the northern wilds of New Jersey in ZIP code 07446

What if my purchase gets lost or damaged in the mail?

Hopefully you opted for the insurance, especially if the item was expensive. In that event, I will take care of filing lost package claims. If you need the receipts to file a damage claim, I can send them to you. In the event you didn't opt for insurance, we will need to work it out between us.

I hold all receipts just about forever. If you want the numbers from or a scan of the receipt, just let me know.

What if my purchase arrives DOA?

If my auction claimed that it works and you find that it doesn't, please contact me so that we can work out our problem together to your satisfaction.

What if my purchase is not what you advertised it to be?

If my auction is not what I claimed it to be, please email me so that I can make it right with you. We both want what is fair.

Can you explain those neutrals in your feedback?

The first one came from a nonpaying bidder in retaliation for a negative that I left. The second one is a bit of a mystery. Others are from new members who left feedback without contacting me first for a resolution.

What if I can't pay up right away?

If you are having financial difficulties, please just let me know. I'm willing to work with you where I can. eBay's system only gives us about 30 days to work it out, so our time frame is limited. And since I sell for others, they are not always as I patient as I like to be.

What if I change my mind after I bid but before the auction closes?

If you don't know how to retract your bid, contact me for help.

Why do you hold checks? How long do you hold them?

Although I've only had a few checks bounce, it was very stressful what with all the money I'd lost. Poor me - I'd lost my stuff, what I paid for it, what I paid to auction it, what I paid to ship it, and then I was charged by the bank too. Ugh - it really rained on my parade!

99% of the time I don't hold checks at all. But for a few, based on large dollar amounts or discovering that they're counter checks, I will hold them until they clear. Also, I sell for other people. If the owner directs me to, I must abid by his/her wishes and hold a check until it clears. This can take several weeks and I will advise the buyer immediately.

What if I see an error in your auction listing?

If you see an error in my auction, please let me know. I'm not perfect and I do make mistakes, both in fact and in typing. I will immediately try to change or amend my auction if it needs it.

When do you leave feedback?

99% of the time I leave positive feedback when I receive payment. On a few occasions, I wait. . . usually because I sense a potential problem looming in my future, or because the owner of the item has asked me to wait. I work hard not to have to leave negative feedback. I like a win-win situation.

Will you combine shipment on multiple wins?

You bet! If I fail to offer it, please ask. The only time I cannot, is when the owner of the items forbids me to do so.

I need my stuff I won in a hurry, how can we speed this up?

First email me quickly when the auction is over with your address and most especially the ZIP code. I'll get back to you with the S&H costs if this is not specified in the auction. Then you should consider using an on line payment service. I'll try to ship the next day after receiving payment.

Can I ask your advice about on-line selling, books, and things like that?

Feel free to email me. I'll help if I can. Have you checked out the threaded chat rooms devoted to auctioning books?

Do you sell or auction anywhere else?

Yes, just check my web site madorman.com for links to all the places I auction and sell.

Do you have any other selling IDs?

Yes, at Half.com I sell using MADORMAN2. At Yahoo Auctions, I use MATDORMAN. Most other places I'm still
MADORMAN.

What if I need to get in touch with you but you don't answer my emails?

On rare occasions, I go out of town, have family emergencies, or even (gasp) take a vacation. If you don't hear back from me within 24 hours, this may be one of those times. It is also possible that your email went to cyber-heaven and never reached me (on rare occasions, my ISP goes down). Please feel free to send another one.

Do you sell internationally?

Most definitely, YES! Although it can be challenging to get items to another country, I do like our international buyers and welcome them whole heartedly.
