Food for Thought

I had this on my eBay store a few years ago and just now found that it was still saved in My eBay.  My father is not here with us anymore but he was a wise man and the many things that he taught me will be good advice for years to come.

Years ago I was looking at a van.  I carried it to my father to ask him if he thought the engine and transmission were good and if the asking price was a good deal.  I wanted it so bad!  He told me he wouldn't give them a dime for it if he had to do the maintenance on it...the working area was too small.  Well, he saw how disappointed I was and looked at me, his rough voice softening a bit - he said,

"The value of anything - no matter what it is - is how much the buyer is willing to pay for it, and how much the owner wants for it.  Somewhere along the line they'll have to agree.  I can look it up in my book for you and tell you what the current selling prices are - but the rest is up to you to decide."

He then proceeded to check it out for me and tell me what he thought of it's condition.  It was up to me then to decide what I wished to offer.  (He did tell me not to ask him to work on it if I bought it and it ever broke down...hee hee hee...but he is a softy and fixed something on it once voluntarily when he found out it was broken.)

THE MORAL OF THE STORY:

As an eBay seller, I try really hard to be sure I have identified my items correctly - but we all sometimes make mistakes.

As a buyer, when you see something you want offered by anyone, check it out - ask someone you know and trust what they think about it or hit those search pages until you find the information for yourself.  You can check out the current selling prices, consider the condition - the final purchase price is left in your hands.  It is your decision.  Consider the options before you click.

As an eBay seller, before you list check out what you are offering.  Be honest and open with the information you find, the condition and if you don't know for sure - just say so; I've found that the buyer's are often the ones who know when we don't.

...and as always - I hope you are having the happiest of weeks!
