Due to the fact we sell 1st quality, authentic overstocks from Dr. Martens Airwair many of our items were manufactured in the UK, but since many potential customers are unaware of the changes Dr. Martens Airwair has made over the last few years we would like to share the information with you. As you will read the quality standards are strictly upheld regardless of the country of origin.

 "It was with great sadness that we announced our factory closures in the U.K. on April 1, 2003. The decision to contract the manufacturing of Dr. Martens footwear is designed to stop significant losses and return the company to profitability. All of our product will continue to be manufactured with the highest standards and the factories Dr. Martens will employ are state-of-the-art, so quality will not be lost. All the machinery used has been shipped from the UK for our highly unique processes and teams of skilled English artisans lived in China until such time as the locals were sufficiently trained as to have all round competence on Dr. Martens manufacturing. Even then we have our English technicians stationed in the factories and very regular visits by members of the UK Technical team. We will only work with factories that have strict enforcement of ethical behavior. This is an area we take very seriously. How will Dr. Martens ensuring ethical practices? Dr. Martens will not work with sweatshops or factories that employ child labor. Dr. Martens will regularly check all of our factories to ensure this remains the case. All of our competitors have long employed contract manufacturing. By contrast, Dr. Martens maintained its UK factories for over 40 years. With its roots forever in England, Dr. Martens will still be designed in the UK where the heart and heritage of the brand still resides. One of the benefits with manufacturing in the far east is that each pair is made more slowly with a lot more labour devoted to each operation than could ever be afforded when manufacturing in the Western World. More available time and with a quality control checker after each operation, there is more observance of standards and tolerances are much tighter."
