| Selling Honestly on eBay
Triangle Laptops has found that purchasing a product on eBay can be very deceiving. There are so many sellers, many listing their products over and over again in order to get shelfspace. Prices have been on a steady downward slide. This may be somewhat due to the economy (as of July, 2009), but it may also say a lot about the quality of the products for sale and the level of customer service behind the sale. We'll take a look at a couple of these areas.
| We take laptop keyboards pretty seriously. We've been selling them for years and really know the products well. We've carefully researched compatibility and take care to educate our buyers. We're based in the US and are always ready to talk with our customers. We even provide installation instructions when available. We've recently seen many sellers emerging on the market with incredibly low prices. We know what the prices should be; we've been purchasing them for years ourselves. So, if we see a new laptop keyboard being sold for $12.99 including shipping, we suspect that the keyboard is not new at all but just looks like new. In keeping with recycling program requirements, laptop manufacturers collect used, pulled keyboards from their service technicians and customers that have had to replace a keyboard. These are purchased for around $0.50 to $1.00 a keyboard in large quantities (see picture). Many of them look great. These may be ending up on ebay as "new" and "tested" when most likely they are neither new or tested. We know - we've been victims ourselves! |

This is another area in which we just won't depart from quality. Triangle Laptops sells only original manufacturer AC adapters. We clearly state this and clearly show the manufacturer's label in our photos. In some cases, such as for Acer, the AC adapters that are purchased directly from the manufacturer don't have their name on them but only the name of the manufacturer of the adapter itself. All major name laptop manufacturers use one of three AC adapter manufacturers - LiShin, Delta or LiteOn. If a replacement AC adapter is not made by one of these three makers, don't buy it. There are many overseas manufacturers of replacement adapters, and they can easily be found on eBay. Think about it - if they're selling AND shipping it for $10 or less, what kind of quality can you possibly be purchasing?
It is much harder to find a genuine adapter. These cheaper replacement adapters frequently last for less than 3 months and can in fact damage your computer. For a price difference of $10 or $15, is it worth the risk? We sure don't think so. Minimally, you'll be without your computer again for a week or so while you once again purchase an adapter. Just get genuine in the first place and avoid the headache! |
