Our Lady of Guadalupe or the Virgin of Guadalupe is a Roman Catholic icon and a very popular icon in Mexico. Catholics honor her as the manifestation of the Virgin Mary and she is an important symbol of Mexican nationalism.
December 12th is her feast day that commemorates her appearance to St. Juan Diego on the hill of Tepeyac near Mexico City in 1531. A church was built in l533 and dedicated in her honor. Our Lady of Guadalupe is an integral part of Catholic faith in Mexico and Central America. She has been recognized as patron saint of Mexico City since 1737. By 1946 she was also recognized and revered in the Americas and Philippines. Many believe she can cure any sickness and works miracles for those that pray to her.
We all experience miracles in our lives, often not recognized unless you are vigilently watching for the small everyday miracles that are taken for granted. Our Lady of Guadalupe reminds us to keep the faith that silver linings do exist.
